Seventh Annual Conference and General Meeting
Hanoi, Vietnam, 31 July - 5 August 2008

The seventh Annual Conference and General Meeting of ASEFUAN will take place from 31st July to 5th August 2008 in Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam. The event is organised by ASEFUAN with the Vietnamese Academy of Social Sciences (VASS). The conference will take place at the venue of VASS. Further information.

Sixth Annual Conference and General Meeting
Madrid, Spain, 2 - 7 September 2007

The 2007 Annual Conference and General Meeting of the ASEFUAN was held in Madrid in September 2007. The theme of the event was ASEF@10 - Achieving Human Security: Inter-regional Co-operation and Global Impact. The conference was organised by ASEFUAN, the Research Unit on International Security and Cooperation (UNISCI) at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and the Asia-Europe Foundation. The programme included a 1-day conference on human security, a panel discussion on the role of ASEFUAN in sustaining the Asia-Europe dialogue, working group sessions for project and activity developments, the election of the Executive Committee for the coming year and the outlining of a new working programme for 2007/08. Model ASEM Simulation, Manila, Philippines, 28 February 2007

The ASEF University Alumni Network hosted a Model ASEM simulation in Manila, Philippines, on 28 February 2007 in co-operation with the Department of Political Science at the University of the Philippines Diliman. The event is supported by the Asia-Europe Foundation. Participants adopted two declarations at the conclusion of their meeting, a Declaration on Global Climate Change and a Declaration on Strengthening Civil Societies and Promoting Human Rights. ASEM 6, Helsinki, September 2006

Catherine Pabalan, President of the ASEFUAN Executive Committee (05/06), delivered a presentation on the youth perspective on the State and Future of ASEM at the ASEM@10 'Connecting Civil Societies of Asia and Europe' conference on 7 and 8 September in Helsinki, Finland. A delegation of ASEFUAN members from Denmark, Finland, Luxembourg, the Philippines and Spain was also invited to the concluding plenary session of the conference and the keynote addresses by HE Ki-Moon Ban, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Republic of Korea, and HE Martti Ahtisaari, Former President, Republic of Finland.

A local chapter meeting was organised by Hanna-Mari Kallio, where the delegation had the opportunity to meet with Bertrand Fort, Deputy Executive Director of the Asia-Europe Foundation. At a lunch meeting hosted by ASEF, views were exchanged on new developments at the Asia-Europe Foundation, including the heightened role ASEFUAN could play in contributing to ASEF's ongoing programmes and initiatives in 2007, in view of ASEF's 10th anniversary.

The delegation also attended the Opening Reception of the 6th Asia-Europe Meeting hosted by Finnish Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen at Wanha Satama. Members had an opportunity to meet with Ambassador Cho Won-il, Executive Director of the Asia-Europe Foundation, Ambassador Wiryono Sastrohandoyo, Chairman of the ASEF Board of Governors and Ms Kaarina Suonio, ASEF Governor for Finland.
